Health 11 Online Welcome Letter

NOTE: DUE TO BUDGET CUTS, THE BELOW DESCRIBED SECTION 6693 HAS BEEEN CANCELED.

Hello.  If you are registered for Health 11 Online instructed by Chad Peters you are in the right place. The upcoming course I am teaching is section 6693, Summer 2009 VCAP Health 11 Online, which starts on 7/11/09 and ends 8/22/09. This course is the same as the 15 week version, only difference is we do 3 modules a week instead of one module a week.

You will have access to 6693 on July 11, if you cannot log in on this date, make sure you email me and let me know. You can also contact the help desk by clicking here, or by going to the Virtual Valley Web Site.

Note that I do not teach all sections of Online Health, so double check that I am the instructor for the section you enrolled. For this course we use a program called ETUDES NG. You can access it by going to the LAVC Home Page and clicking on on the Virtual Valley Web Site link at the top right of the page. 

Once you are in the Virtual Valley Web Site, read all of the material in this site.  Click ot the Logging In link at the top of the page. Read how to obtain your ETUDES NG password and ID.  Also make sure you go over the system requirements for ETUDES NG to work properly. We will cover all of these requirements the first week of class as well, but it will be helpful to go over them now as well.  

Although you may be able to log in a week or so prior to school starting, you will not be able to access the actual Health 11 Site until the first day of school.  Sorry all you over achievers, no working ahead, so relax and enjoy your break until the first day of class.  Once the first day of class comes, make sure you do log on to ETUDES NG and introduce yourself to the rest of the class and begin Module 1.  If the first day of classes comes and goes and you still cannot log on, email or call me right away so we can remedy the problem.   

VERY IMPORTANT:  If you do not complete Discussion Board 1, which is simply introducing yourself, by the end of the first week, and I have not heard from you via email, I will drop you from the class.   See the Announcements section for more information.

One thing you can now do is acquire the text book. We use Health the Basics by Rebecca Donatelle. If you are purchasing it at the LAVC Book Store, you will be purchasing the LAVC Custom Edition, 2nd edition. If you are not using the bookstore, you can purchase the 8th edition. It is the same text, only the LAVC edition has a different cover and an introduction to the facilities and services offered at LAVC People always ask me if they can use an older edition, the answer is yes, except the statistics are outdated and it may hurt in some quizzes or assignments.

There are no class meetings, no required time that you must be online.  The only requirement is that you submit your assignments prior to the due date each week, which is on a specified day that varies class to class, but it will be a consistent day.  For more details, syllabus, and up to date information go to my personal website, Chadpeters.net.  If you have any further questions please feel free to email me at petersca@lavc.edu or call my voicemail at (818) 947-2600 ext. 8194.
